A Treasure Hunt, My UMI Pearls…and HAIRSPRAY!

Everything that has happened for the past three days still hasn’t actually sunk in. It still feels like a dream…actually, felt more like a joke but a JOKE that actually costs 650 Dirhams (now convert that to Pesos!)! Hehe…

It was last Sunday afternoon, August 28 when I got a call from Ms. Elizabeth of Cinestar Cinema informing me that I have won First Prize for Week 8 of their Treasure Hunt Promo. Geez…can’t believe it. It’s been a habit of mine joining promos and answering this and that questionnaires especially now with the net just at the tip my fingers but to actually won! Yippeee! But I didn’t raise my hope that high…I’m happy to win and just felt glad…so glad…that my “weekly-willpower-to-solve-each-puzzle-and-quizzes-paid-off”.

I went to Cinestars’ Office last Tuesday not only to get my prize but more actually to grab the chance to watch a premier (Hairspray Movie) for FREE! And I was just surprise to learn that my prize was actually a pearl necklace from UMI Pearls worth AED650! And all along I was expecting to get a toy, a movie shirt or free movie tickets, perhaps?

GOD really gives the greatest surprises in life especially when you least expect it.

A Grand Draw happened also that night for us who has joined in the Promo…nope, didn’t get the Grand Prize but it didn’t matter. I got more than what I wanted - a prized necklace, a free movie (plus free chocolates!) and quality time with Tatay!
Now, let’s sing to that –
“Good morning, Baltimore….”

Ponder on...

"Dear Lord, We ask for Your protection and care over our loved ones and ourselves. Send Your guardian angels to protect us and lead us away from danger. Lord, help us to recognize Your intervention in our lives so we will never take You for granted, in Jesus’ name. Amen."

Today let me share some thoughts to live by... 'Got this one from an article of Ricky Lo of Philippine Star.

Read on, it's nice...

Every day, choose to heal, not hurt; to forgive, not despise; to persevere, not quit; to smile, not frown; and to love, not hate.

Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny. — FRANK OUTLAW

Some of the best moments in life —
Lying in bed while listening to the rain outside...
A long drive on a calm road...
Finding money in your old jeans just when you need it...
Giggling over silly jokes...
Holding hands with a friend...
Getting a hug from someone who loves you, and...
The moment your eyes are filled with tears after a big laugh.

10 points for healthy living—
1. More veggies, less meat;
2. More vinegar, less salt;
3. More fruits, less sweets;
4. Chew more, eat less;
5. More water, less soda;
6. More deeds, less talk;
7. More sharing, less desires;
8. More sleep, less worries;
9. More walks, less rides; and
10. More laughter, less anger.

Our lives are books and each day is a page. We can’t erase what has already been written but we can always try to write a better ending.

Look at what happens if you rearrange the letters of the following words — DORMITORY, dirty room; DESPERATION, a rope ends it; THE EYES, they see; THE MORSE CODE, here come dots; SLOT MACHINES, cash lost in me; ANIMOSITY, is no amity; A DECIMAL POINT, I’m a dot in place; SNOOZE ALARMS, alas, no more Z’s; ASTRONOMER, moon starer; MOTHER-IN-LAW, woman Hitler; ELEVEN PLUS TWO, twelve plus one; and ELECTION RESULTS, lies, let’s recount.

Enjoy life! God bless everyone!!!

Parokyano for Life

I remember the first time I heard them sang “Harana”. I hated them, for to me, it was Tony’s (Lambino of Smokey Mountain) song.

Then came our project in school – organize Parokya ni Edgar’s concert! I hated it more. I wanted to have Geneva Cruz or a Jose Mari Chan.

And after a round of Chippy’s and Pizza Pies, I became a true-blooded Parokyano and the rest, as always, is herstory.

It’s always fun looking back to our PNE memories. Afterall, not all fans during that time were given the same luck I had everytime they were in Iloilo – riding the same van with the group was always a hilarious experience and a treat as you will get to hear instant compositions on anything and everything that will catch their fancies; staying at the backstage during shows and see them just being their normal(?) selves; meeting them in their hotel; eating sessions at Buto’t Balat and Ted’s; or simply just being able to talk with them (and text them!).

For a fan, it’s a dream come true. But what’s good being a Parokyano is that, the PNE guys do not make you feel less anything, but a real barkada (hehe…mmmhhh…assuming?).

Their debut album went out in ’96 yet, after a decade of fun and music and some marriages and babies adding to the growing Parokya family - PNE still rocks!

To Parokya ni Edgar (lalo na kina Din and Bu – sori, may favoritism to!)

Be +

I would like to consider myself a positive personone who always tries to see the brighter side of things.
For most, being thankful for predicaments coming into our lives may sound crazy? How can you be thankful when you’re a mess? Of course, I have my low-downs and thanks, for all I need is a moment of crying spell and I’ll be fine.

Here’s a list of some of the Not-So-Good-Things I’m Thankful of (not necessarily according to this order!):
1. Being away from home which have made me realized how important my family is – mom and sisters!
2. Not having enough budget for transportation that I have to walked home – which turns out to be my much needed exercise.
3. Walking from office to home (due to see No. 3) which gives me time to say my Rosary which I can’t fulfill at other given time.
4. Having just enough for food enables us to control those unwanted fat and cholesterol!
5. Being in a “very-bad-situation-caused-by-me” and still having friends around who never judge you for what you did.
6. Bad loans that made me value the importance of every cent earned.
7. High water and electricity bills that teach one to go back to basics – conserve energy, put those lights off, etc!
8. Not having the time and capacity to go bar-hopping for it lessens the alcohol and smoke you take in your body when going out and opens a discovery of new past times like sitting on the beach and enjoy people-watching ALL FOR FREE!
9. Not having a Washing Machine for it gives you that needed exercise and vocalization!
10. Not having a TV at home for it gives you and your roommates (Tatay & Carla, that is!) time to talk and talk and talk….
I can go on and on and on with more lists but these are just for now and as parting, let me share this with you:

BE THANKFUL
By Author Unknown

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who
are also thankful for the setbacks.
Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

I'll miss you, Harry!

In Memory of Dumbledore, Sirius,Lily & James, Lupin & Tonks, Fred, Mad-Eye, Snape and Hedwig & Dobby and all the Great Wizards who fought and died for the Greater Good…

It was in 2001 when I first met Harry Potter and since then, I was introduced to a new world of wizardry that not all muggles can understand…

My, it was then I started reading Books of Spells at the National Bookstore and would advise my cousin to get a red cloth and hold some salt with it to get rid of her toothache!

How I wish to go to Hogwarts and be part of one of the best schools for wizards but then, I doubt if I shall be accepted by Dumdledore…If permitted, I’ll tell the Sorting Hat to put me in Gryffindor as Harry had as I’m sure my “traidora traits” would surely be a welcome to the Slytherins.

And oh, how I wish to get my own wand! I wonder what it will be made from and how long it will be….

Not only, was I who got enthralled with the magic Harry Potter had brought, my fiancĂ©, had dreamed of starting his own Quidditch Team and start their own league at our town! Wouldn’t that be exciting?

Harry Potter…

Harry Potter has opened a new world for me to explore! And back when they started on their first year – I felt I have also made new friends through Ron and Hermione as well as Hagrid and even later on, with Gwarp. It was magical meeting the great and bold wizards especially those in the Order. How I wish our people in the authority can have the same dedication and sincerity in serving our country!

From Harry I have realized how one should treasure the friends you have and trust the people who loves you.

How I wish I am a Weasley. I don’t care about the “redhead, hand-me-down clothes-tatak” as long as I have the same responsible and kind father, loving mother and wonderful sibs (of course I got the last two but…mmmhh).

And most importantly, I have realized to appreciate what I have and be humble of what you’ve become just as Harry lived under the cupboard and still humbly, become the Chosen One.

As they say, some good things just never last…the world of Harry Potter has come to rest with the last book its author has written.

Partly, I’m sad that after the seventh book, I have no more sequel to look forward to yet, I believe that somehow it would be best to give it an end….for the meantime? I hate parting and saying goodbyes…just the thought of it would make me cry. Or maybe, I don’t feel that sad as I know there would still be the last two movies to look forward to.

My writing seems has no beginning and no end as I feel that way now…I’m ready to move on yet, I know I will forever treasure my journey in the world of Harry Potter. This is one I will surely pass on given a chance, to my children and grandchildren.

And to end this…

“…Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! – Thank you!” – Albus Dumdledore, Sorcerer’s Stone, Chapter 7
